Thrift Share Monday - July 30

Am I being ungrateful, by this weeks finds?  I did find some good stuff, but my estate sale week started early,  AND I ventured slightly out of town therefore had high hopes of scoring things outside from my usual haunts, but I did not end up with a car full of junk with as many places I went to.

Here's what I scored.

Tuesday I went to the rare, odd mid-week estate sale (not ran by a company).  It was a small duplex that was needing to be cleared by the end of the week.  I got got some really cool vintage 1970s Marvel Comic, Pepsi glasses.  These are currently listed individually on Etsy.

And some milk glass Fire King Custard cups, 12.  I already have 10 that I've had a hard time telling myself to list on Etsy.

Wednesday was another home ran estate sale.  Not a ton of stuff here, since they were slowing bringing things out throughout the week.  However, I did get these great red patio chairs.

No, they are not vintage, they are new, and I was not gonna ask how much they were, but did anyway.  $50 for the pair.  Hmmm, even though that's a good price for the pair, that was still too rich for my blood.  So I offered $35, and it was accepted.  Score!!  I knew these were way more pricey than what I got them for, and this weekend I saw them for $58 each at a store. These are mine!

Here is an unusual occurrence.  The weekend before at an estate sale I saw a glass head for $25, but didn't want to pay that much, so the next day I went back in hopes it was still there so I could buy it half off, but it was gone.  Then at this Wednesday sale what do I see?  Yup, a glass head, $10.  Uh yeah I want it.

What would I do with a glass head you might ask...well display my new fabric headbands of course.  :-)  They could be worn narrow, scrunched up, or wide.  I'll be adding some soon to Etsy.

Fridays, estate sale was a dud, we went to lunch and spent 1 3/4 hours sitting in my car in traffic on our way home.  A drive that would usually take 25 minutes with no traffic, and maybe 45 with traffic.  Holy Cow!!!  It was horrific!   

Saturday my mom suggested we venture out of town for sales, since I didn't have the kids.  So we went a whopping 45 miles out of town to the cute town of New Braunfels, TX.  I'll admit it was nice driving around the town, through some of the neighborhoods.  However, I had really high hopes though to get a ton of vintage goods from an area I don't venture out to, but was really disappointed.  Two estate sales, and 5 thrift stores, and this is what I got.

Thrift Share Monday - June 25

This week I wasn't in a huge thrifting mood, but the weekend didn't leave me empty handed.

I went to two estate sales this weekend, and only one produced goods.

Vintage ceramic Christmas tree anyone?  I have one of these, that might have been my grandmas, but I haven't seen them with the little bird lights before.  So freaken cute!

Got these Texas Ware melamine dessert plates, cups and saucers.  Look at that great atomic design.

Some cute vintage hats/caps.  What are these called?  One is marked 100% wool, the other looks to be hand-made.  I'll be listing them on Etsy as soon as I can get some information on them.  The red one is marked on the inside but I can't make out the company name,  it's out of New York.

A cute vintage wallet/coin purse.  Love all it's compartments.  Now listed on Etsy.

So many times at estate sales I forget to look at pieces that hold/display items for sale.  If a price is not obviously visible I tend to automatically assume it's not for sale and it's just for display.  I have to manually turn this feature on in my brain, and think everything is for sale.  I went back to this estate sale on it's last day, 50% off.  This is when I grabbed the hats and the wallet.  I figured that was it.  As I was looking through a cart of linens I acknowledge the cart the linens were in,  "Oh this cart is cute-ish", but I didn't see a price on it. I almost walked away, but rolled it around and there was the price on the other side, $12...half off $6.
 
Ok, yeah I know it's a little rough (like my grass), but I've already thought I'll try to sew up the deteriorating cloth, or just put it aside and make a new one.  The cart itself is worth $6.  It will be a very cute display piece at a market.  I could throw so much into it.

I see blue mason jars so often online, very rarely in person, and when I do they are pretty pricey.  So when I saw this jar at a garage sale I almost didn't ask.  Good thing I did ask, because at 50 cents it's a steal.  I know it's missing it's wire and glass lid, but it will be a great addition to my craft space.
 
Last but not least, Pyrex.  Got these fantastic Daisy bowls at a garage sale.  This is the first time I've seen this pattern out in the wild (other than online).

Thrift Share Monday- June 18

Where has this month gone?  I wrote this post two weeks ago (a majority of it), and never got around to taking pictures of my finds, then I had intentions of having it ready for the following week but that didn't happen either.  So third times a charm. 

This post compiles mostly of finds from two weeks ago, with a few (very few finds) when I was on vacation, along with this weekends finds (which happen to be my favorite finds).

Let me start off with what I didn't/couldn't buy, that hurts my heart.  While out of town, on vacation, I stopped at a few thrift stores, with not much luck.  At one of these shops I thought I scored big time.  In the storefront window were two fantastic items....that ended up not being for sale, but for raffle.  Ugh!  Look at that great great green canister stacking set, and pink cake pan.  *Sniff Sniff*  They were so freaken cute, and so hard to walk away from. 

Ok, I'm in mourning about what I didn't get.... but here's what I did get. 

I scored two fantastic Pyrex casserole dishes from my favorite thrift store.  It's one of those things.  "I was just here yesterday....where did those two come from?"



I almost didn't grab the Butterfly gold casserole because it looked weird.  As in not like the other ones I have in my collection.  It's very movie theater nacho cheese looking.  Come to find out it's Butterfly Gold 2.  So it wasn't just me.  I figured if I decided I didn't want it maybe someone on Etsy would.

And these fantastic typeset drawers, scored at separate locations.  I already have a large one, that is a little bit damaged, so I'm gonna switch it out with my new find from this weekend. 


These awesome mason jars with lids.  At a $1.75 each they were a steal.

I went to an estate sale of a 92 year old sewer.  So what did that mean for me?  A grocery bag full of fabric for $1, and these are not scrap pieces (aside from the bird fabric) 1-2 yards a piece.  Yay!  Now what will I make with them?  A cute skirt maybe with the floral fabric on the left.



A ton of thread, for $5.

Once in awhile I tend to need colors aside from black and white...this should hold me over.

I revisited this sale on its last day, Monday(what a weird day to have a sale), and grabbed some vintage jewelry.

A  faux pearl necklace.

I really love this necklace.  They are plastic, faceted beads, and super cute.  Wish I had somewhere to wear it to.  Or maybe I just need to make a 1950's dress, with a cute apron and wear it while I cook.   I'm sure someone will love it, once I decide to stop admiring it and let it go.

I wonder what it was like to live back then (50's & 60's).  Costume jewelry always seems so extravagant.  Who goes out to places where fancy fake or real jewelry like these pieces are usable?  I have some very fancy pieces of my grandmas where I envision being matched with a tiara, while having tea with the Queen.

This necklace (below) really appealed to me, even more so at 50% off.  It is really light, not over bearing, and something about it just really drew me to it. 

As I was looking at it the cashier told me her mom hand crocheted them back in the 60's.  What?  I had to look at them closer.

I have old looking hands...don't look at them.  I'm only 34.  :-(

Yup!  They are loose crocheted, beaded loops, and that is what sold me.  It looks to be a metallic thread.  I'm so gonna try to make these.

Upholstery fabric samples (13"x26") at .25 cents per piece.  These will make some cute little purses.  Now if I could just discipline myself to get to sewing. 


Ok...I'm tired, and just barely squeezing this in for Monday, CST.  I was determined to get this done.  Tomorrow is another day and maybe...just maybe I'll get some sewing done.  :-)

Thrift Share Monday-May 14

My thrift week started early, and good thing it did since I was occupied yet another Saturday (when garage sales are happening), but this time it was for the good.  Saturday, I attended, for the second time, the Austin Flea.  A great Austin event that gathers local vendors/crafters/thrifters in a really cool venue, The Highball.  I had my vintage goods up for grabs and  I sold a good amount of stuff, including a few of my handmade items.

So what did I find this week?

These fantastic Anchorglass Primrose snack plates.

A Square flower Pyrex casserole dish.

Sheffield Granada salt, pepper & gravy boat.

Two Fire King avocado green cereal bowls.

Do you ever have those somewhat practical needs and just say "Oh I need [this]." when your out thrifting and then there it is?  Well, I needed a small dolly/cart to help with the transport of my plastic bins containing my vintage items, for when I do an event.  Bins full of glass are heavy.  So I was doing my regular circle at my favorite thrift store, start off in glass then around the back to the other side to linens...."oh I need a dolly" I back up to the random item section...and you know what there it was, a collapsible dolly.  Now how random is that?  It was $8, an easy price to pay for the ease of lugging heavy bins around.  Awesome!  :-)

My finds just seemed to get better at the thrift stores...who needs garage sales.  Check out these super cute vintage suitcase(s).  There were two, but I sold  the smaller one this weekend, before I thought about taking their picture.

Then check out these super fab Beautyware canisters, in all their vintage, retro glory.

Now, I might have an addiction that I can't control, and it's to Butterfly Gold.  Two weeks ago I showed you I scored a plate/cup set, and some casserole dishes, and about two months ago I scored 5 mixing/serving bowls....and last year I had already  thrifted 8 hook cups with saucers and a creamer.  So why in the world do I need 17 more cups, a creamer, and a sugar bowl?

Well to answer that is because 9 of these cups are Pyrex. How can you leave a set of 9 matching Pyrex cups on the shelf?  Plus the Corelle hook cup saucers were bagged with the the Pyrex mugs (how silly), and the hook cup bagged set had a sugar bowl that I didn't already have.  So, my justification was that I couldn't buy the Pyrex bagged with the Corelle saucers and leave the Corelle hook cups, because of course that would mean I now have the saucers that don't belong to the Pyrex mugs.  Plus I needed the creamer in the hook cup set to complete the set I already had.  Right?  Yes, just agree with me.   Right?  :-)

So what I'll do is take the sugar bowl from the hook cup set to complete my set of 8+creamer.  Then I'll eventually list the hook cup set on Etsy.  As for the Pyrex....well...um.... I'm not sure on that.  What kind of addicted soul am I? One day when I have a place of my own I'll be pulling out my Butterfly Gold cups, and I'll have 3 different styles with matching print.  Who needs 29 coffee/tea cups?  The really messed up part is that I rarely drink coffee or tea, AND  I don't even know 29 people.  Just lock me up now before you find me on Hoarders.  I don't want to find skeletal remains of a pet I don't remember having underneath a pile of Pyrex/Corelle.  :-)

Thrift Share Monday - April 30

Wow! Where did April go?  This month flew by.  It started out with great thrifting, had a lull in the middle and ended just as good as it started. 

My scores started out early in the week with a great find at my favorite thrift store.  At one point last year I had decided that I was going to collect the butterfly gold Pyrex/Corning Ware for my own personal use.  This was determined when I got some great hook handle cups in the pattern.  Then my finding of this pattern wasn't as easy as I thought.  I had found a butter dish and some D handle mugs....which I eventually sold (not too sad about getting rid of those items).  Then I found a set of 5 mixing bowls/serving bowls, and last week I got these...

A 23 piece plate, mug, and saucer set (7 plates, 8 mugs and 8 saucers) for $7.99.  I got an 8th plate a few days later at another thrift store.

And these two serving/casserole dishes.  All three finds at different thrift stores.  Yay!

That was a great start to my thrift week, but it didn't stop there.  Got this small green Pyrex casserole dish.

The farm scene is so tiny and detailed.  Look at those cows.  Does anyone know anything about this brand, Indopal, made in Indonesia?  Is it vintage or newer?  I haven't seen anything vintage from Indonesia yet, but that doesn't mean anything.

Thursday I went to an estate sale that started at 2 in the afternoon.  That was a first for me, usually that's close to the time estate sales are closing down for the day.  Hey, but I'm not complaining.  I got there 30 minutes early, and I scored one of my happiest finds there.

A vintage Cosco step-stool chair.  In RED!!! I rushed into this estate sale hoping this would be a good price since I saw it in their online advertisement.  It was $20.

About a week or two earlier I was just telling my mom how you never see these.  I remember my great-grandma had one that she kept in her kitchen.  This chair is in fantastic condition.  It looks like it has some paint splashes on it, but the paint is red so it doesn't stand out.

And here at this estate sale I scored a pile of vintage sheets and pillow cases.  Three of the sheets have the same patterns, but are in different colors.  Awesome!  I already have some market bags made out of these for a fair I'm selling at this coming weekend.

Then on Friday I went to another estate sale.  Mom wanted to stop for breakfast, as I hesitantly said yes.  I wanted to get to the sale early to get what I saw online.  Ugh!!!  We were number 34, and they let 1-20 in first, and we had to wait for almost an hour to get in. The suspense was eating at me.

It wasn't a large estate sale, they had higher end stuff like art work that I don't mess with...yet.  However, I did get what caught my eye.  This dress form.

I went in with a price in mind.  I know how much these are new, and it would double as a display for picture taking of my aprons and bags I list on Etsy.  The price I had in mind was a bit high and I did walk away from it once I saw the price was exactly what I had in mind.  Ouch!  I came back to it to look at it some more, then saw the adjustment dials on it's side.  Damn!  It's my size too.  I had to get it, and in all reality $60 is a steal for this, and it's in a great neutral brown color, and of course in fantastic condition.

Saturday morning I hit up a few garage sales and got...

this super fab Samsonite two-suiter.  It's sturdy, heavy, and I love how it's set-up inside.

I was a bit confused about some of the doo-dads in the suitcase, like a bar that swung out, and a rod flush against the interior, not sure what they were for, then I found this ad.  Man they were fancy back then.  

The rod is for your ties, and the bar is to hold your suit pants.  Wish I could travel that light. 

Well onto the few remaining things I got. A much needed cutting mat, 24x34, $3(forgot to take a pic).  Got a tip for those who have warped cutting mats (maybe from ironing on them.  Don't ask me how I know this...eh hem).  Place it on a flat surface outside in the sun and it will "melt" back in place from the heat. ;-)
